ABOUT THE WINE:

When Alexander Valley Vineyards (AVV) began in 1975, 24-year-old Hank Wetzel was solely responsible for producing the first vintage and building the two-story structure still in use today. He had one cellar worker and his wife, Linda, was the company bookkeeper. The years have flown by, and AVV has faced challenges and experienced success, all while continuing their commitment to showcasing the special place they call home. “Jubilee” celebrates the winery’s 50th anniversary, and Hank Wetzel will be honored as a Sonoma County Icon at the 2025 Sonoma County Barrel Auction for his long-time contributions to the industry.

AVV is located in the heart of Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley on the historic property settled in the 1840s by valley namesake Cyrus Alexander. After purchasing the property in 1962, Maggie and Harry Wetzel continued Cyrus’s family farming tradition. Cabernet Sauvignon was one of the first varietals they planted, and the grapes on their property quickly became known for their rich, balanced flavors and elegant finishes.

Winemaker Kevin Hall has decades of experience with the vineyards at AVV, allowing him to adapt to the rhythms of nature and the evolution of each vineyard lot. “Jubilee” is an elegant and layered Cabernet Sauvignon with loads of texture and soft tannins. It is rich with hints of earthiness and balance. It has lush flavors of cassis, blueberry, and coffee, and a long, velvety finish.
