Lot #15 Elaine Wines

Winemaker Elaine Sale and her husband, Mark, moved to California so that Elaine could pursue her dream of living on a vineyard and making wine. They were drawn to the natural beauty and wonderful climate of the Russian River Valley, its welcoming community, supportive grape growers and winemakers and, of course, its renowned wines. They found a vineyard of breathtaking beauty on a steep, rugged site, planted in 1998 to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. They named it Calypte Vineyard after the hummingbirds – Calypte anna – that live in its surrounding oaks and madrones.

Elaine and Mark have made Calypte Vineyard their home and are committed to sustainably growing the best possible fruit and making wines that are true expressions of the land. Elaine captures the terroir of Calypte Vineyard by making wine without inoculation, fining or filtration. “Hummingbird” delights with aromas of red cherry, raspberry, rhubarb, spice and violet. It’s plush on the plate with lively acidity and a lingering smooth finish.
