Lot #2 ACAIBO
Trinite Estate Vineyard
- Chalk Hill
ABOUT THE WINE:
This wine has been crushed, fermented and aged for almost 18 months in an amphora (clay vessel) so it it is named for the only vessel it has seen throughout its life from grape to bottle.
The owners of Acaibo have a long heritage of winegrowing and winemaking in Bordeaux, France. Claire Lurton owns Château Ferriere in Margaux and Château Haut-Bages Liberal in Pauillac, respectively 3rd and 5th classified growths. Gonzague Lurton owns Château Durfort-Vivens, 2nd growth in Margaux and is believed to have the largest amphora cellar in the world.
Winemaker Nicolas Vonderheyden also has a Bordeaux background. His family owns a small château in Margaux where he grew up before moving to California in 2013, and he brings knowledge and savoir-faire of several generations of winemaking. The fruit in this lot is from a single estate vineyard and special attention was used in selecting the best of the older parcels. The wine is expected to show floral notes and deep minerality.
