Lot #23 Ferrari-Carano Vineyards and Winery

Ferrari-Carano has never before created a Sangiovese and Syrah Red Blend but since Italy is in their DNA, they have created this Super Tuscan style wine exclusively for the Sonoma County Barrel Auction. The Sangiovese and Syrah are both sourced from the same ranch, LookOut Mountain, from mature 30-year-old vines. These blocks are located at 650-750 feet of elevation, with warmer temperatures and west-facing rolling slopes. The soils for these blocks are ancient, weathered sandstone, combined with sandy loam, and well-draining. The vineyard has been certified sustainably farmed since 2015.

Ferrari-Carano has been bottling Sangiovese since 1990 — coming up on 35 years! The founders were second generation Italian-Americans and always had Italy and Italian culture in their hearts and everyday lives. They loved gathering with family and friends, cooking together in the kitchen, and sharing great food and wine.

“Vivo Italiano” shows lifted aromatics of black plum, violets, cola, anise, caramel, and warm cardamom spice. It is a medium to full bodied wine with juicy acidity, ripe pomegranate and strawberry jam flavors, and moderate tannins.
