ABOUT THE WINE:

The “High Elevation Pinot” barrel auction lot features Pinot Noir sourced from the winery’s organically farmed Sea View Ridge estate located just two miles from the Pacific Ocean, at 1,500-1,875 feet in elevation. Located on the far west Sonoma Coast, this region is extremely rugged and remote. Working in agricultural isolation on the edge of the coast, just north of the town of Jenner, is done with a very specific goal in mind, to present a pure expression of one of the world’s truly exceptional places to make wine. Elevation, coastal forest and proximity to the Pacific Ocean combine to produce an outstanding Pinot Noir and this vintage is a stunner.

From the initial plantings more than 30 years ago, Flowers Vineyards & Winery has been inspired and defined by the Sonoma Coast. Sometimes referred to as the “far” Sonoma Coast, their rugged, windswept vineyards represent extreme viticulture in the pursuit of crafting wines representative of time and place. Their organic and biodynamic practices demonstrate their approach as stewards of the land, resulting in healthier vines and higher quality soils.

Following the selection and fermentation of the vineyard blocks, in addition to monthly blind tastings, Winemaker Chantal Forthun carefully evaluated each vineyard block to find the ones that truly exemplify the essence of Fort Ross-Seaview. “High Elevation Pinot” shows coastal botanicals and minerality, earthy forest floor and fresh acidity, with notes of deep red to dark fruit.
