Francis Ford Coppola Winery’s “Asteria” is an expression of winemaker Andrea Card’s passion, her first and only luxury Malbec crafted from the estate’s Archimedes Vineyard. Born from tireless exploration and devotion, this rare gem emerges from a small lot of hilltop Malbec vines, whose fruit has never before been bottled as a stand-alone varietal wine. Derived from the Greek word for “star,” “Asteria” is crafted from the singular, high-altitude Block 7, which soars 2,100 feet above the Alexander Valley.

In 2017, the Coppola family purchased a 100-acre parcel in the prestigious Pine Mountain-Cloverdale Peak American Viticultural Area and named it Archimedes Vineyard. The vineyard was acquired from Barry and Jackie Hoffner, visionary pioneers of the distinguished AVA and integral growers for the Coppola family for years.

Andrea Card’s decades of expertise in winemaking are defined by a commitment to minimal intervention throughout the process, ensuring each wine becomes a true reflection of its grapes, terroir, and vintage. “Asteria” spent 20 months aging in French oak barrels to achieve a lavish, full-bodied symphony of tannins. The wine’s inky, opulent hue gives way to aromatics of ripe plum and tobacco. On the palate, the cuvée unveils decadent layers of warm clove and luscious boysenberry, culminating in a velvety embrace of sweet oak and a plush, lingering finish.
