ABOUT THE WINE:
“Sightlines” is a one-time trade offering of single-block Pinot Noir from the highest elevations of Flowers’ coastal Sea View Ridge estate. Grown at 1,875 feet elevation less than two miles from the Pacific Ocean, this small and vertiginously steep block of Pinot Noir is the highest altitude planting of Pinot Noir this close to the ocean in Sonoma County. Radiating from the very tallest point of the vineyard, the Cielo block, or neighborhood, commands uninterrupted sightlines down the coastline for 35 miles (when not immersed in coastal fog!).
Winemaker Chantal Forthun expresses the wild and rugged beauty of the coastal vineyards through a light-touch: farming responsibly, harvesting by hand, using 100% native fermentation, and crafting wine with minimal intervention in the cellar.
With ethereal energy, “Sightlines” Pinot Noir reaches for the sky. Delicate mountain florals, bay laurel, and lifted spice aromas open on the nose of this Pinot Noir, with a tangle of botanicals, graphite, and minerality adding intrigue underneath. On a palate charged with a latticework of energy, grilled plum flavors anchor layers of vibrant purple fruit steeped with anise and backed by deceptively fine tannins — powerful for all of their elegance.
