Lot #36 Mauritson Wines, Sangiacomo Family Wines

Two of Sonoma County’s iconic farming families, with more than 10 generations combined, have come together to create this spectacular “Tio Dieci” Chardonnay! With a combined 10 generations of farming, they wanted to honor that incredible legacy and the origins of the Mauritson and Sangiacomo families. The Mauritsons immigrated from Sweden while the Sangiacomos came from Italy. The Swedish word for 10 is Tio and the Italian word for 10 is Dieci.

With some of the deepest roots in Northern Sonoma County, the Mauritson family has been farming in Dry Creek Valley since 1868. The Sangiacomo family hails from Sonoma Valley on the southern edge of Sonoma County and boasts some of the region’s most renowned vineyards. While the two families have known each other for generations, they have never collaborated on a wine. This single vineyard Chardonnay is from the crown jewel of the Sangiacomo vineyards, the Green Acres Vineyard. Each winery made wine from this outstanding site and Winemakers Emma Kudritzki Hall and James MacPhail blended the two wines for this Never Before, Never Again lot.

Both wines that were blended to create this lot were native yeast fermented and allowed to go through malolactic fermentation spontaneously. While the Green Acres Vineyard terroir defines this wine, the subtleness of each winemakers unique decisions lends a complexity and nuance that would not be found otherwise. Citrus notes with flavors of pear and green apple greet your senses. Hints of brioche add a layer of richness to the bright fruit. There is a seductiveness to this wine that foreshadows that the best is yet to come.
