Lot #37 MacRostie Winery & Vineyards

In music, a nocturne (French meaning “of the night”) was used to describe musical pieces popular in the 18th century that were normally commissioned, composed and performed for a special evening party. “Nightwing Nocturne” is a single-block, single-clone Pinot Noir made from MacRostie’s Nightwing Estate Vineyard in the Petaluma Gap, which acclaimed Winemaker Heidi Bridenhagen helped to design, including personally selecting all of the clones and rootstocks.

Since its founding in 1987, MacRostie has played a pivotal role in pioneering elegant and energetic expressions of terroir-inspired Pinot Noir from some of the most acclaimed vineyards in Sonoma County. The Nightwing Estate Vineyard is defined by wind and fog. In fact, what makes the Petaluma Gap AVA so unique is a wind gap in the coastal mountain range that funnels cooling breezes and fog east from the Pacific Ocean south to San Pablo Bay. These cool, windy conditions lower yields and lengthen the growing season, allowing the grapes to achieve ideal physiological ripeness much later and at lower sugar levels, creating fascinating aromas and pristine, dynamic flavors.

“Nightwing Nocturne” is a profoundly sophisticated wine with a silken texture and beautifully perfumed aromas. On the palate it reveals a wonderful union of density and delicacy, with fascinating layers of flowers, minerality and holiday baking spices supported by flavors of plum and red and blue berries.
