ABOUT THE WINE:

“Heritage Selection” reflects the traditions handed down to the winery from the long-time vineyard owners of Peters Vineyard and Leras Family Vineyard. The Leras Family Vineyard’s history started over 100 years ago, when Nick Leras’ father purchased the property in the early 1900s. Nick is being honored as one of the first members of the Sonoma County Century Club. Peters vineyard has a long history as well, starting with farmer, Tom Mukaida, who was in an internment camp during World War II. After the war he purchased parcels of apple orchards overlooking the Sebastopol area of the Russian River Valley. In the 1980s his son-in-law, Randy Peters, talked his father-in-law into pulling out some apples and planting Chardonnay and eventually Pinot Noir.

The winery’s founders, Ben Papapietro and Bruce Perry, started their commercial operations in 1998, after 18 years as garagistas in their San Francisco garages. They started their first two single vineyard wines with Peters Vineyard and Leras Family Vineyards, so these two vineyards have been the foundational beginnings of the winery itself. Now, with over 25 years in business, the winery has grown from its first 75 cases of wine to producing 7,000 cases annually.

In “Heritage Selection,” the two vineyards provide enticing aromas of dark red fruit with effusive floral notes and a prolonged finish with undertones of cherry, raspberry, caramel, vanilla in addition to the well-known minerality of the Russian River terroir.
