ABOUT THE WINE:
This Chardonnay comes from a single New Doreau French Oak Barrel from Block 19 of Sangiacomo Roberts Road Vineyard. This barrel was identified as a top performer from Nottingham Cellars’ program and truly captures the cool climate of the site. This is the winery’s first Sonoma County Barrel Auction lot and they are thrilled to offer this single vineyard wine as their SoCoBA debut.
The Sangiacomo Family is legendary in Sonoma County. While their roots are in Sonoma Valley and Carneros, the family was instrumental in pioneering the Petaluma Gap AVA, which is part of the Sonoma Coast. Roberts Road was planted in what was largely considered undesirable grape growing land with mostly equestrian use. Today, the Petaluma Gap AVA is now widely considered one of the best areas to grow Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and is home to some of the most reputable vineyards in Sonoma County.
The region’s cool climate is on full display in this wine with a core tropical fruit and citrus. This single barrel will spend 6-8 months on lees creating a rich, complex mouthfeel with a creamy texture. This is a textbook Sonoma Coast Chardonnay from one of the region’s most recognized vineyards.
