ABOUT THE WINE:
This special lot is sourced from one of the steepest hillside vineyards in Aperture Cellars portfolio, exclusively from “Block D” of the Del Rio Vineyard. This distinguished vineyard’s highest-elevated block has receive 100-point ratings from 2019 to 2022 by multiple critics.
Consumers and critics alike have become enamored with the purity, precision, and balance of Aperture wines. Jesse Katz has been named “winemaker of the year” multiple times from global publications. He received a perfect 100-point rating from five of the industry’s top critics for his Alexander Valley wines, and has had perfect scores in every vintage since 2017. He has also been an innovator who has created global demand for Aperture Cellars wines.
Hillary Sjolund began her winemaking career at UC Davis in 1998, gaining experience at Pine Ridge Winery before expanding her career to Washington state in 2006, earning multiple 90+ Wine Spectator scores as head winemaker at DiStefano Winery before joining icon Charlie Hoppes at Fidelitas. In 2019, she joined Aperture Cellars, becoming Director of Winemaking in 2024, and her talents have uniquely shaped the Aperture portfolio.
Together they focus on selecting unique sites and settings, then pairing site specific winemaking techniques to capture the deepest expression of each vineyard. With “Block D” expect rich blackberries, blueberries, and cherry compote that lead to hints of chocolate, and earth. Layers of fresh black fruit, spice, and florals unfold with well-integrated oak. Velvety tannins and vibrant acidity drive a long, layered finish.
