Lot #51 RODNEY STRONG VINEYARDS
OH BROTHERS WHERE ART THOU
- Alexander Valley
ABOUT THE WINE:
Brothers Vineyard is one of Rodney Strong Vineyards’ three hillside vineyards in the Alexander Valley and a jewel in their portfolio of eleven vineyards. Each year, Brothers Vineyards produces dark, intense Cabernet Sauvignon, which forms the core of the single vineyard Brothers Cabernet Sauvignon. Winemaker Justin Seidenfeld has chosen his favorite single barrel and blended it with a splash of 5% Malbec to round out this “never before, never again” wine. “Oh Brothers Where Art Thou” refers to Winemaker Justin Seidenfeld’s never ending quest for making extraordinary wines from this vineyard, and one lucky Sonoma County Barrel Auction winner will get to add it to their cellar.
The name Brothers Vineyard pays hommage to Rodney Strong proprietor Tom Klein’s grandfather Sol and great uncles Jack and George Klein, the first of his family to work the land in California, and begin their rich agricultural history in this great state. In the hills to the east of the small town of Cloverdale, Brothers Vineyard spans 141 acres, nearly all planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller amounts of other Bordeaux varieties. The vineyard is on well-drained loam underlain by sandstone, shale, and ancient greenstone. Its elevations, surpassing 1,000 feet, and its primarily western aspect perfectly situate the vines to capture the full warmth and light of the afternoon sun, ripening Cabernet Sauvignon well into the chocolate and black fruit profile, with exceptional richness.
“My passion is all about the connections that wine creates,” Justin Seidenfeld explains. “The connection you feel with the earth where the grapes are grown, the connection we feel at the winery with the people who enjoy our wines, and the connections that the joy of wine creates between the family and friends who share each bottle at their dinner table.” “Oh Brothers Where Art Thou” is a deep, dark, rich wine with complex flavors of dark berries, cassis, dark chocolate, and espresso along with a seductive mid-palate and long finish. Justin recommends cellaring this wine for a few years or decanting in its youth.
