ABOUT THE WINE:
In the more than 25-year history of the winery, Ramey Wine Cellars has never made a standalone bottling from the Rockpile appellation. The Ramey winemaking team isolated a lot of Rockpile Cabernet Sauvignon that was so compelling, it necessitated its own bottling. To celebrate, this never-before wine is being offered to discerning buyers at this year’s Sonoma County Barrel Auction.
David Ramey is among a distinguished group of pioneering American vintners who revolutionized modern-day winemaking and elevated California to the forefront of the international wine community. His efforts have helped shape the way many wines in the United States are made today. Over the years, David Ramey has helped introduce traditional, artisanal winemaking techniques in California.
High elevation, mountain fruit from Rockpile Ridge Vineyard yields a classically styled and balanced Cabernet Sauvignon that will age beautifully. Ramey follows the Bordelaise model of malolactic fermentation completed in barrel and bottled without filtration. The result is balance and length with tannins and currant, lavender and a touch of spice on the palate.
