Lot #54 PRIDE MOUNTAIN VINEYARDS
ROCK ARCH OLD VINE
Rock Arch Vineyard
- Sonoma County
ABOUT THE WINE:
Rock Arch Vineyard is home to the oldest vines on the Pride estate and bisected by the Napa-Sonoma county line. The vines that produced this barrel auction lot are located at the highest elevation of the entire property, 2,100 feet, and are squarely on the Sonoma side. They date back to 1982 when the budwood was taken as cuttings from both Heitz’s Bella Oaks Vineyard in Rutherford and Sonoma’s Jordan Vineyards.
Pride Mountain Vineyards, historically known as Summit Ranch due to its location at the top of Spring Mountain, was established in 1990 by Jim and Carolyn Pride. Intending to take on the regeneration of the property as a retirement project, Jim found himself inspired by the quality of the fruit from Rock Arch and began producing wine in 1991. A labor of love from the start, Pride Mountain Vineyards quickly became a world-class winery.
The quality of the 2020 fruit was outstanding and this vineyard designate barrel auction lot is being offered exclusively for the 2022 Sonoma County Barrel Auction, while the remaining precious barrels will be blended with a bit of Petit Verdot to create a 2020 Reserve Cabernet. Notes of ripe black cherries, blueberries, tar, graphite and intense dark chocolate frame this formidable wine with supple, unctuous body and a minutes-long finish.
