ABOUT THE WINE:

Vierburgunder is a play on the German word for Pinot Noir, Spätburgunder. Vier means ‘four’ in German, and this never before, never again SoCoBA lot includes the winery’s best barrels from four single vineyards throughout Sonoma County – Roberts Road (Petaluma Gap), Wildcat Mountain (Sonoma Coast), Schug Estate (Carneros), and Sangiacomo (Sonoma Coast).

Schug Winery was founded in 1980 by Walter Schug, the founding winemaker for Joseph Phelps Vineyards. Drawing on his extensive experience in the production of fine wines in both Europe and California, Walter and his wife, Gertrud, established their own winery in the cool marine climate of the Carneros appellation. For over 40 years, Schug Winery has focused on making exceptional terroir-driven Pinot Noir that had always been close to Walter’s heart.

Today, the winery is owned and operated by Walter and Gertrud’s children, Axel, Claudia, and Andrea. His children and Winemaker Johannes Scheid carry on Walter’s legacy today. Surrounded by estate vineyards, Schug Estate Winery lies sheltered on a hillside five miles south of the historic city of Sonoma. The winery boasts sweeping views of Carneros and Sonoma Valley and is located just north of the San Francisco Bay.
