ABOUT THE WINE:

Exclusively available at the Sonoma County Barrel Auction, “The Big 4” lot was crafted from the top Silver Oak estates in Alexander Valley. All of the sites are sustainably farmed by the Duncan family and include Alexander Valley Estate, Red Tail, Miraval and Big River Vineyards. These special growing areas represent a wide range of the Alexander Valley appellation, and the wine offers multiple aromatic layers originating from each of the sources. With nearly 20 years of experience at Silver Oak, Winemaker Christiane Schleussner has mastered the signature Silver Oak winemaking style that emphasizes food-friendliness, early drinkability and the aging potential of Cabernet Sauvignon. This will be a coveted prize for any Silver Oak collector to enjoy upon release or to cellar for a special occasion.

Family-owned for 50 years, Silver Oak produces Cabernet Sauvignon aged exclusively in American oak. Ray Duncan founded Silver Oak with Justin Meyer in 1972, and it’s now owned and operated by Ray’s sons, David and Tim, with a commitment to innovative and sustainable viticulture practices across its vineyard properties, winemaking facilities, tasting rooms and cooperage.

Each of the vineyards that make up “The Big 4” brings a unique set of distinctive elements to this one-of-a-kind wine. First granted to Captain Henry Fitch in 1843, the Alexander Valley Estate Vineyard has a rich grape growing history dating back to at least 1870 and produces bright and fleshy fruit with great acidity. Red Tail Vineyard and Miraval Vineyard were both acquired in the late 1980s and are valued for acidity and brightness plus depth and tannins with structural integrity, respectively. The newest Silver Oak site in Alexander Valley, Big River Vineyard, was replanted and reconfigured to produce dark and ripe Cabernet Sauvignon. “The Big 4” will be an exceptional finished wine with black currant, cassis, black cherry, chocolate nibs and warm Christmas spices.
