ABOUT THE WINE:

This selection celebrates the excellence of Alexander Valley Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon and the Wetzel Family’s heritage of sharing the special place they call home with wine lovers around the world. Katie Wetzel Murphy and her husband, Dennis Murphy, purchased property near the winery in 1984. Over the years they have created countless memories for family, friends and members of the wine trade at the place that many fondly call “Camp Murphy.”

In the late 1960s the Wetzel Family bottled a few cases of Cabernet Sauvignon for friends and family. That homemade wine became the inspiration for Alexander Valley Vineyards, founded in 1975 by Hank and Linda Wetzel. Katie Wetzel Murphy joined the winery in 1978 and traveled the country pouring her family’s wines and promoting Sonoma County to members of the trade, press and wine drinkers. Today, the fourth generation is growing up on the property, now known as AVV.

Winemaker Kevin Hall selected this lot from the 43 different lots of Cabernet Sauvignon harvested in 2021. The wine will be aged for 22 months in a single new fine grain French oak barrel – Vicard Distinction. This is a big, rich and concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine shows great color, aromas of dark fruits and chocolate, and round, full mouthfeel. While elegant, this wine has a great balance of fruit and acidity and a structured, long finish.

A winery owner or winemaker dinner or store visit is offered in your market as part of this lot. Must be scheduled on a mutually agreeable date.
