ABOUT THE WINE:

One of the original icons of Sonoma County wine, Davis Bynum was the very first vintner to produce a single vineyard Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. This never before, never again Pinot Noir, crafted from Bynum’s favorite clones, is an elegant tribute to this visionary winemaker, who passed away at the age of 92 in December of 2017.

Davis Bynum left a career in journalism to start making wine in 1965. He built his namesake winery in an old hop kiln in 1973, vinting single vineyard Pinot Noir from Joe Rochioli Jr’s now-legendary vineyard. Today, more than 40 years later, under the direction of Proprietor Tom Klein, Winemaker Greg Morthole and Consultant David Ramey, the heritage of Davis Bynum lives on through the handcrafted creation of single vineyard wines grown exclusively in Russian River Valley.

The Pommard Clone and Dijon Clone 115 were the two selections that always captured Bynum’s imagination. These two clones are typically blended with others, but Winemaker Greg Morthole took a chance on partnering them to create a unique Pinot Noir blend. For the first time ever, the earthy, spicy and soft Pommard clone has joined with the bright red cherry and rose accents from the Dijon 115 for a highly unique tribute to an undeniable innovator.
