Lot #30 Marimar Estate Winery

Marimar Estate has been growing and making Tempranillo for 15 years, but this is the first barrel selection from their finest lots to make a special small bottling. The lot name “TEMP’rature Rising” is a play on words with Tempranillo and rising temperatures in wine growing regions. As a company, Marimar Estate strives to do their part to battle climate change. Tempranillo vines are able to cope with rising temperatures, sunburning, and drought conditions, making this variety adaptable for the future.

Marimar Torres is the 2024 Sonoma County Barrel Auction Icon, an honor that recognizes individuals who have had a significant impact on the evolution, development and perpetuation of Sonoma County wine and have helped raise the global perception for the region. The Torres family has been dedicated to wine for five generations. They began producing wine in Penedès in 1870, although their winegrowing roots date back to the 16th century. Originally from Spain, Marimar Torres grew up as a fourth-generation member of the family and moved to San Francisco in 1975. After two years of searching, she acquired land in the Russian River Valley in 1982 and began planting the Don Miguel Vineyard in 1986. A Catalan farmhouse-style winery was built in 1992. Marimar’s daughter, Cristina, now works alongside her as General Manager and joined the leadership at Marimar Estate in 2020. This will be the first time in the Torres family that the business will be passed from mother to daughter!

This wine has fantastic balance between fruit and structure, which is the style of wine Marimar aims to make. It is elegant and powerful at the same time. It features aromatics of darker fruit notes, dry leaves, and leather. There is a balance between earth and fruit, fruity and fleshy, while also having very complex spicy and savory flavors. This is a wildly diverse, food-pairing wine.
