Lot #37 Gary Farrell Vineyards & Winery

Historically, the New River Block 777 is picked and fermented with all of the Old River Block fruit; however, because of the cool, long growing season that was the 2023 vintage, this section of vines was allowed to ripen for an additional week before harvest and fermentation. The exquisite wine produced was a standout and begged to be given the spotlight, so “New Kid on the River Block” was born. The resulting wine exudes vibrancy, freshness, and a solid core of dark fruit that is buoyed by the earthy richness and structural depth of more mature Old River Block vines, highlighting a true Pinot Noir gem from unique circumstances in a surprising vintage.

The 2023 vintage marked 41 years of the amazing partnership between Gary Farrell Winery and Rochioli Vineyards & Winery. This special selection from the River Block honors this long partnership with the legendary Joe Rochioli, who passed away on August 18, 2022, and his son, Tom Rochioli who manages the vineyard and makes the wines for his own Rochioli label. Gary Farrell Winery continues its collaborative partnerships with top growers and its commitment to wines that capture the unique character of the vineyard.

This gorgeous wine displays radiant aromas of Bing cherry preserves and red rose petals delicately intertwined with savory five spice and wisps of fresh Darjeeling tea. A lush texture carries an intriguingly layered palate of wild dark berries, tangy kumquats, and rich earth accented by a frame of cedar box. The robust flavors are deftly balanced by ample tannins and a mouthwatering acidity into a pleasantly prolonged finish.
