Lot #58 The Donum Estate

Selected from a block of Swan-clone Pinot Noir that used an experimental form of fungal control, in which no toxins are used to control mildew and botrytis, the vines were sprayed with beneficial fungi that outcompete the damaging mildew and botrytis. By avoiding fungicide, the grapevine’s natural flora remains intact, resulting in a native fermentation with amazing complexity and intrigue. “Black Swan” is from a single block of the Donum vineyard in Carneros and has never been bottled on its own.

They believe that in order for the vines to yield a true expression of the land, it is critical to start with healthy, living soils. They are committed to regenerative organic farming practices and products that respect the soil, the many organisms that call their vineyard home and the surrounding land. Donum has achieved organic certification of their four estate vineyards by the California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) organization and Regenerative Organic Certified® by the Regenerative Organic Alliance (ROA).

The Donum winemaking and vineyard team’s ability to work with nature, not against it, has created an environment at Donum where the vines thrive and produce the highest-quality fruit possible-with as little intervention as possible-resulting in some of the region’s most unique, terroir-expressive wines. Expect earthy, savory, complex, and dark fruit flavors from this one-of-a-kind “Black Swan.”
