Lot #62 WALT Wines

WALT Estate Vineyard, Bob’s Ranch, lies alongside the region known as the Petaluma Wind Gap. This area is known for cooler temperatures due to the connection of fog and wind funneling along a pathway from the Pacific Ocean through the Bodega Bay and to the San Francisco Bay. Bob’s Ranch Estate is defined by diverse aspects along gently rolling hills and is planted with seventeen distinct clones and heritage selections of Pinot Noir.

To produce the 2023 Bob’s Ranch “1,000 Miles of Pinot”, the winemakers began their work in the vineyard, carefully selecting individual blocks of fruit that highlight an expressive, powerful style of Pinot Noir. Typically, the clusters in these blocks showcase millerandage, where tiny berries form alongside larger berries. The small berries provide purity of flavor and concentration, while the large berries in the clusters form the finesse of freshness and acidity. Additional vinification of whole cluster, in both stainless steel and concrete tanks, enhances these characteristics. The result is a concentrated and focused Pinot Noir with profound fruit, savory texture, and vivid structure which will offer pleasure on release while also allowing for careful cellaring for years to come.

WALT is an independent family-owned winery founded by Craig Hall and Kathryn Walt Hall. WALT honors Kathryn’s parents, Bob and Dolores Walt, who were grape growers in Mendocino since 1972 and nurtured Kathryn’s passion for vineyards, wine, and land stewardship. Today, WALT specializes in 1,000 Miles of Pinot Noir, sourcing fruit from four estate vineyards and meticulous grower partners from Oregon to Santa Barbara along the Pacific Coast.
